The 2008-09 Eat Smart Get Moving! Teams Enter Phase 2!
With 238 teams, totaling almost 2,000 participants, this year's Eat Smart, Get Moving! Program (ESGM) has moved into Phase 2 which lasts from October 28-December 15. The 30-week program, which will run through April 13, 2009, is divided into four phases of progressive goals for nutrition and physical activity. The program helps participating adults reach the ultimate personal wellness challenge of meeting the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans daily recommendations of 3 servings of low-fat and fat free milk and milk products, 6 servings of fruits and vegetables, 3 servings of whole grains (identified as the Food Groups to Encourage), and 60 minutes of physical activity.
Taking the Journey to Health
These healthy activities are tracked as points and are translated into miles that represent each team's journey from Philadelphia to Las Vegas, the site of next year's School Nutrition Association's (SNA) Annual National Conference. Sponsored by SNA and National Dairy Council®, the teams can download helpful tools and resources along the way at www.EatSmart-GetMoving.org. Included are frequently updated tips and newsletters, to help keep members motivated and stay on target. In addition teams will receive incentives during their journey and be eligible for final prizes. Winning school teams and winning districts will be announced and recognized at the 2009 SNA ANC in Las Vegas.
