Chef Combo Goes to the Beach
Lois Griffin, nutritionist at Little Feathers Head Start in Presque Isle, Maine serves these fun snacks during their "Water and Sea Life" unit.
Fishing Snack
What You Need:
Small paper plates - 1 per child
Creamy peanut butter or a soft cheese dip - 2 to 3 teaspoons per child
Pretzel rods - 1 per child
Fish-shaped snack crackers - 10 to 15 per child
What To Do:
Spoon peanut butter or soft cheese dip onto each child's plate.
Have children dip their pretzel rod, then fish for their crackers.
Sand Cup
What You Need:
Crushed graham crackers - about one square per child or 1 to 2 tablepoons of cracker mix
Vanilla pudding mix - 1 package per 5-6 children
Milk - 2 cups for each package of mix
Clear plastic cups - 1 per child
Spoons - 1 per child
Optional: Small paper umbrellas
What To Do:
Make vanilla pudding according to package directions.
Place a small amount of pudding in each cup.
Have each child top their pudding with their crushed graham crackers.
Optional: With careful supervision, top each sand castle with an oriental-paper umbrella.
Sea Water Snack
What You Need:
Berry-blue gelatin mix - 1 package per 5-6 children
Fish-shape crackers
Clear cups - 1 per child
Spoons - 1 per child
Make gelatin according to package directions.
Pour mixture into cups and let it set.
Serve with fish-shape crackers.
